Last Days in Dadaab
During the last two weeks in Dadaab, Asa and I both wrapped up our work projects, and our UN colleagues planned for us a classic farewell party, replete with speeches, merriment, and gifts. (Thankfully, I was recovered sufficiently from a nasty bout of amoebic dysentary and was able to participate in everything.)
From the refugees to the compound cooks to the staff cleaners to the head of sub office, we have learned many life lessons and found dear friends. Leaving Dadaab though relieving was also a bit sad. We knew that Nairobi would not be as warm and generous of a place. We boarded our small UN charter plane and departed Dadaab on July 27.
